Daiya Cream Cheese Gets a Big Thumbs Down

I was SUPER excited when I first heard that Daiya introduced cream cheese style spread to their collection of products. After all, I’m a fan of their shreds and wedges.

My friend tried it, and warned me against it. I wanted to sample it for myself, though. Mostly so I could review it here. :)

I picked up a tub of Daiya plain cream cheese style spread on the way home today. Not a fan. I found the texture to be very sticky, and it had a strange aftertaste. It tasted and felt very artificial. There’s an odd sweetness to it that might work in frosting. I’ll give it a try, since I have the rest of the container left, and report back. For now, I’m not planning on making a repeat purchase.

Do you have a favorite cream cheese alternative?

  1. I felt the same way! I bought it recently to try it on bagels in hopes of discovering a new fave. I also liked the fact that it didn’t have palm oil in it. The texture was strange and very crumbly (almost like they packed down a bunch of Daiya shreds). I’m hoping to use mine in a mac and cheeze or something, but not spreading it like cream cheese again. A big fail. Glad to know it just wasn’t a defective container.

  2. I love Tofutti cream cheese replacement. The texture and taste is so close to the real thing, you’ll never miss cream cheese again!
