Roasted Chestnuts








This holiday classic is ridiculously easy to make. Not only are chestnuts a delicious and naturally sweet treat, they are also packed full of vitamins and minerals! Chestnuts are a great source of dietary fiber, and contain lots of vitamin C, folates, mono-unsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants. They are also rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, potassium and B vitamins! Consider roasting some up to compliment your holiday meal.


chestnuts – I used a pint sized container


1 Preheat oven to 425˚.
2 Hold the chestnut on a cutting board with the flatter side down. Use a serrated knife to very carefully cut a slit through the shell. Give it a little squeeze to make sure you’ve cut down to the meat. Repeat with all chestnuts
3 Put all the cut chestnuts into a saucepan & cover with water. Add some sea salt. Bring water to a boil.
4 Once water boils, strain the chestnuts and put them on a baking sheet or in a roasting pan.
5 Roast at 425˚ for 15 minutes. Remove from oven.
6 Place a towel over chestnuts and allow to sit for about 15 minutes. Peel & enjoy!
